Dean guitars was born in 1976, in the attic of the Chicago suburban childhood home of company founder Dean B. Zelinsky. The eighteen year-old Zelinsky was convinced that guitar design and manufactoring had hit a wall. Rock music was huge and guitar makers were failing to keep up with the times. The world was ready for a guitar that looked, played, and sounded superior to what was availible from manufactures at that time. Zelinsky had a beter idea.

What followed was a line of eectric guitars that for the first time allowed players to play to thier potential. With it's highly visible V-shaped headstock and trademark wing logo, Dean became in effect, the first boutique guitar line in the history of rock music.
